ALPS Guides and Tip Tops Materials:

ALPS TITANIUM
Proprietary high-grade titanium alloy is used in our high end casting, spinning and single foot fly guides. It has the lowest carbon content and supports 100% corrosion proof. ALPS titanium is 40% lighter than SS316 Stainless Steel and is strong yet flexible.

ALPS SS316 STAINLESS STEEL
High-grade stainless steel that is used in our guides with “X” designation. The lower carbon content of this stainless steel allows for extreme corrosion resistance over standard stainless steel materials. ALPS™ was the first company using this high-grade material for guide frames.

ALPS STAINLESS STEEL 316 WIRE
Used exclusively in our “X” series fly rod guides. Same performance as our other SS316 only in a wire form for unparalleled corrosion resistance in fly rod guides and tops.

POLISHED 304 STAINLESS STEEL
ALPS™ polished SS304 frames are made from a higher grade stainless that polishes up nicely and offers superb corrosion resistance. Highly recommended for fresh water applications.

 

ForeCast Guides and Tip Tops Materials:

FORECAST SS304 STAINLESS STEEL
High grade stainless steel used in many of our guide frames. Exhibits superb resistance to corrosion and is very workable in the stamping process used to form guide frames. It tumbles well and is smooth enough to allow excellent plating adhesion.

BRASS
We use marine grade brass for our heavy-duty “SU” style boat rod guide frames. It is very workable for this heavy-duty frame design and is very easy to plate.

STAINLESS STEEL 316 WIRE
Used exclusively in our “X” series fly rod guides. Same performance as our other SS316 only in a wire form for unparalleled corrosion resistance in fly rod guides and tops.

POLISHED 304 STAINLESS STEEL
Our polished SS304 frames are made from a higher grade stainless that polishes up nicely and offers superb corrosion resistance. Highly recommended for fresh water applications.

 

Guide Frame Plating:

Titanium Chrome (TC)
Titanium Chrome (TC) coating used on many ALPS guide frames. It adds hardness and corrosion resistance to guide substrates. Great for saltwater applications and provides a beautiful titanium chrome color.

PVD Tich (PHYSICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION TITANIUM CHROME)
PVD (Plated Vapor Deposition) coating used on guide frames for freshwater use. It adds hardness and makes a beautiful glamorous-like finish. Popular on fly rod and stripper guides and bass rods. Not recommended for saltwater applications.

D.B.C. (DOUBLE BLACK CHROME)
All Forecast black guides feature our D.B.C. plating process. A double plating process that forms a chrome over plating for superb corrosion resistance.

Hard Chrome
This plating is an industry standard that offers good resistance to corrosion and overall durability.

ASTM-B117 Corrosion Testing:
ASTM-B117 worldwide standard for corrosion testing. Parts are placed in a chamber and subjected to a fog spray of salt, until corrosion appears. This creates an extremely harsh environment to mimic the real world.

ALPS SS316 (S-6) Results:
With an average of 50 continous days, which equates to 150-hour fishing trips without washing guides. ALPS guides outperformed in every way and showed zero corrosion.

Forecast SS304 Results:
With an average of 20 continuous days, which equates to 60-hour fishing trips without washing guides. Our guides perform top notch and showed zero corrosion.

ALPS:
• All ALPS Guides Feature either titanium or SS316 substrate.
• All ALPS Guides feature feet that are pre-grounded before plating for easier wrapping and better corrosion resistance.
• Many ALPS models feature the exclusive recessed ring design (RRD) frame/ring design.
• ALP™ guide frames go through a proprietary tumbling process to assure a smooth, flawless finish. This proprietary process also enchances the plating quality by improving the bond between the plating and the frame surface.
• All frames have passed the ASTM-B117 salt spray corrosion test.
• All ALPS guide rings are carefully ground on the outside edge for perfect concentricity which enchances ceramic ring to guide frame fit. This tighter fit between the ring and the frame makes the guides more durable, and provides a more even gluing surface that helps prevent rings popping out from the frame.
• All ALPS guide rings are carefully fused on each side of the frame with a proprietary bonding agent for superb adhesion of the guide ring to guide frame.
